Interesting info on David Cluff Sr.

Hello everyone,

Amanda, Jake and I are in Norwalk, OH visiting Amanda's side of the family. (We had a Tornado warning the other day...pretty cool.) While we were here we decided to visit Kirtland since we didn't take the time to do it when we came to OH 3 years ago.

To make a long story short, we visited the N.K. Whitney Co. store that is the original store still standing. Inside, one of the tour guides showed us a record that Mr. Whitney kept that showed who were the patrons that bought items from his store. The tour guide knew that I was a Cluff, so she looked up David Clough Sr., and sure enough, he bought fabric, salt, buttons, sugar and some other miscellaneous objects from N.K. Whitney back in the early 1830s. He also worked on the Kirtland Temple (this is also documented in the Blue Cluff Journal book).

The tour guides were trying to impress upon us that Joseph himself walked through those doors of N.K. Whitney, but I was more impressed that our common ancestor David Sr. walked through those doors and it was documented what he bought. Pretty cool, huh?

Amanda has been doing a lot of genealogy work while in OH. She has been bouncing around to several cemeteries in the area taking pictures of her ancestor's headstones. She has also been in the local library and at the town court office trying to deal with government bureaucracy to get some of the records she needs. She said she feels like it's a big puzzle and she likes putting the pieces together. It's nice to see her get involved with an old hobby (she has been doing genealogy research since she started high school).
